Canvas iPad Student Annotations

Students can annotate PDF files for assignment submissions within the Canvas app. This feature allows students to create annotations in files such as in-class worksheets before submitting the assignment. Students can open the file either from a link in assignment details or within course files, leave annotations, and submit the annotated file.

Available annotations include highlight, underline, strikeout, squiggly, drawing, free text, and image.

How do I submit a PDF assignment with annotations in the Student app on my iOS device?

Connect your Notability app to your Google Drive

Tap on the gear in the lower left hand corner of the screen.
Tap Manage Accounts
Tap Log in next to Google Drive

You will now need to enter your Gmail address and password and allow the application access to your Google Drive.
Then tap the Auto-Backup option on the left sidebar in the Settings window.
This will allow you to both access your Google Drive files and backup your Notability notes.

Importing files into Notability

Tap the Import button in the upper right corner of the screen (it’s the small square with the down arrow)
Choose Files, Google Drive or Document Scan

Uploading to Canvas from Notability

To upload a Notability note/pdf to Canvas, open the Note and tap the Share button in the upper left corner.
Tap Other Apps in the Send To window.
Adjust the format and options and then tap Share Note.
Then tap the Canvas Student app. If you do not see it you will need to scroll to the right in the app icons to find it.
You will then be able to add comments, select your course and then choose the appropriate assignment.
Lastly, tap Submit.
